Takaful 2013 - Third Annual Conference on Arab Philanthropy and Civic Engagement

From: 6/4/2013   To: 6/6/2013

With new forms of philanthropy and citizen engagement emerging in the Arab region, the lines of demarcation separating one from the other are increasingly blurred. In times of profound change, it becomes necessary to take stock of these important transformations in civic engagement and philanthropic practices, as well as understand more about how to capitalize on and better target this enormous resource.

Takaful 2013 will host around 100 participants from the region and internationally. In addition to practitioner panels and roundtables, around 25 papers will be presented that fall under the following themes:
  • Civic Engagement and Philanthropy Through a Transitional Lens
  • Regulation of Civil Society: Reflections Into CSO Laws
  • Youth Political Engagement
  • The Role of Universities in Promoting Philanthropy and Civic Engagement
  • Philanthropy, Civic Empowerment and Political Mobilization
  • Awqaf and Socioeconomic Development
  • Case Studies and Conceptual Issues
Takaful 2013 is organized by the John D. Gerhart Center for Philanthropy and Civic Engagement at the American University in Cairo, in partnership with the Foundation for the Future, the United Nations Development Program regional office and Silatech.
