The Access to Knowledge for Development Center (A2K4D) at the School of Business of The American University in Cairo (AUC) is hosting its Sixth Annual Workshop on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the Oriental Hall, AUC Tahrir Campus.

This year’s workshop is titled “Towards a Concerted Knowledge Consciousness: Opportunities, Tensions and Pushbacks.” The two panel discussions this year will explore insights from four diverse research projects the center has been involved in over the past years.

The first panel explores the multiple ways in which knowledge is managed and mismanaged. Panelists will discuss the different ways knowledge can be directed toward participatory development by looking at the notions of openness, sharing and innovation with the many attempts at circumventing the spread of knowledge through intellectual property regimes and surveillance.

The subject of the second panel is social movements between online and offline spheres of influence. Panelists will examine the role of different networks and opportunities for mobilization. A2K4D will present insights from a three-year project researching participation in the Networked Public Sphere and discuss them with experts from the community.

We look forward to welcoming you!
